The little rescue with a big heart

Our primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find loving, permanent homes for homeless dogs, specifically dogs in shelters at-risk of euthanasia and dogs whose owners can no longer care for them. We believe in compassionate rescue when the dog is enduring inhumane living conditions or likely to be deemed less adoptable due to age, health, emotional state, or breed. We ensure that all the dogs we take into our rescue, regardless of individual needs, are cared for with love and compassion for the duration of their lives.

Explore our social media to see the kinds of things we’re up to on the daily. We are constantly engaging with shelters, rescues, trainers, veterinarians, and even people in the community who just need help with their pets. It isn’t always easy, but it keeps us busy helping improve the world in our own little way…one dog at a time!

Curious About What We Do? Join us for our Volunteer Open House & Appreciation Event!

When: Tomorrow — Saturday, April 26th, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM

Where: Los Alamitos, CA
  • RSVP by submitting this form and we will send you the location deets:
tinyurl.com/rsvpforaddress

Whether you stay for 30 minutes or the entire afternoon, we’d love to see you there. Come learn more about our work, connect with our amazing community, and enjoy some light refreshments as we celebrate our current volunteers and welcome new ones! 💖

As a 100% volunteer-run organization, we rely on the community to help us rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need. Put simply: The more help we have, the more dogs we can save! Come learn how your time and talents can make a positive impact—from fundraising and event planning to photography, transporting, fostering, and more!

While we love pups of all shapes and sizes, we won’t have the space to accommodate our furry friends at this event, so—as much as it pains us—we ask that you leave them at home.

Please note the following before submitting one form per household:

  1. K9 Kismet Dog Rescue is a foster-based rescue, which means we don’t operate out of a facility with kennels. If you’re looking to volunteer your time toward the daily care of dogs in need—such as enrichment, exercise, feeding, or general caretaking—we encourage you to consider short- or long-term fostering with us, or volunteering with a local shelter like City of Long Beach Animal Care Services .
  1. All K9 Kismet Dog Rescue volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and be willing to sign a waiver before engaging in volunteer duties.

K9 Kismet Dog Rescue

When we heard that City of Long Beach Animal Care Services was planning seven full days of fun for National Volunteer Appreciation Week, we said, “Count us in!”

🎪 Step right up and relive the magic! Earlier this week, K9 Kismet helped transform the shelter into a big top of gratitude for a Circus-Themed Volunteer Appreciation Day — and what a show it was!

Thanks to our sweet friends at @sugarsugarcottoncandyco and a lineup of the cutest “ringmasters” you’ve ever seen (yes, we mean the adoptable pups!), we celebrated the heart and soul of the shelter: the volunteers.

These everyday heroes give their time, compassion, and boundless love to animals who need it most — and they do it all without expecting anything in return. To each and every volunteer: thank you. You are the magic. You are the difference. You are the reason so many tails wag a little harder, and hearts heal a little faster.

If you want to support the incredible volunteers at Long Beach Animal Care Services, stop by and say hello, adopt one of their furry friends, make a donation, or join this amazing family of changemakers. Learn more today at: www.longbeach.gov/acs.

Meet Popcorn (aka Poppy) – a 2.5-year-old lovebug with a smile as big as her heart. She first caught attention when she was picked up as a stray—with her head stuck in an empty snack jug. It was a snack-tastrophe that perfectly captured her goofy charm and passion for all things yummy. Since that unforgettable moment, Popcorn has become the ultimate underdog success story.

Popcorn spent six long months in the shelter, waiting and hoping. Even after developing a limp, she never lost her spark. She needed two major knee surgeries (bilateral TPLO) to walk and play without pain. Thanks to the incredible support of her fosters, Friends of Long Beach Animals, Dr. Courtney Campbell, the team at Stitches Veterinary Surgery, and generous donors, Popcorn was able to receive the care she needed. Now fully healed, she is ready for her next big chapter: a forever home.

A few reasons to love Popcorn:

⭐️ Super affectionate and snuggly

⭐️ Smart, playful, and treat-motivated

⭐️ Learns new things quickly

⭐️ Good with other dogs

⭐️ House-trained & crate-trained

⭐️ Silly in all the best ways

If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal, fun-loving sidekick, Popcorn might be your perfect match. To learn more and apply to adopt visit: www.k9kismet.org

Foster

As a foster-based rescue, our primary need is short and long-term fosters. Fostering costs you nothing; we cover all expenses. Whether you’re a seasoned foster who can handle some of our toughest cases, or a first-timer looking to ease into the process, we want to hear from you.

Adopt

By providing a forever home for a dog in rescue, you're helping to free up a foster home, which allows us to help another dog in need. The dogs in our care are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered (unless medically waived), microchipped, and receive regular wellness exams, preventative treatment, specialty care as needed. If you’re interested in meeting a K9 Kismet pack member, please fill out the adoption application to begin the process.

donate

As a 100% volunteer-run organization, your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the dogs in our care. It provides funds for everything from life saving surgeries to ID tags. Every dollar has purpose and is put to work for the dogs we serve. Help us say yes to the next dog in need.
